Description
This stunning property is situated in the picturesque village of Gastouri, and just a short walk away from the stunning Achilleion Palace which was built for Sisi, the Empress Elisabeth of Austria in 1890. Gastouri itself is a beautiful picturesque village with a maze of narrow streets, tavernas, cafés and bakery and it is well located on the island giving easy access to both the east and west coast. The seafront resort of Benitses with its restaurants, bars and yachting marina is no more than a 5-minute drive and it is a 15 to 20-minute drive from the various sandy west coast beaches like Agios Gordios. Corfu Town and the airport are 12 km.
If you love gardens, then this property will not disappoint. The gardens are beautifully kept and offer an array of stunning trees and shrubs and flowers with stone walls and paved and cobbled pathways – it is a truly magical paradise with secluded seating areas all surrounded by the stunning flora. There is a private prefabricated pool, a built in BBQ area, and for alfresco dining, a wonderful sunken dining area with a unique hanging table.
The property itself offers 140 sqm of living space plus a separate storage area. The original building dates back to 1891 and the current British owners have renovated it with every attention to detail, creating a simply magnificent home to be proud of. It oozes charm and character as well as offering all modern comforts.
Spread over two levels, the ground floor is where the main living spaces are found. The main entrance leads into a central hallway that gives access to the various rooms as well as having the stairs to the upper level and access to the rear gardens. To one side of the hallway there is a good-sized living room with a corner open fireplace and to the other side, the modern, fully fitted kitchen and dining area.
The three bedrooms are found on the upper level - 1 bedroom with ensuite shower room, and two further bedrooms that share a family shower room. (One of the bedrooms is smaller than the other two). This upper level has balconies to both the front and rear of the house.
The house is accessed via a quiet lane which is a dead end and stops at the house. Important for village houses, there is private parking.
